Session Three/Small Group Questions

INTRO: What is the best new thing you ever got to replace an old one? Was it a new phone, new shoes, or perhaps a new computer? Or something else? What made the new thing better than the old thing?

SCRIPTURE: 16 So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! – 2 Corinthians 5:16-17 (NLT)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2 (NLT)

IDEA:

  •   With Christ, you got a brand new life.

  •   With Christ, you are not who you used to be back then, even when you

    sin.

  •   Every day, God wants to make us new by transforming our minds.

  •   Our purpose is to be made completely NEW.

    ASK:

  1. How did your life change once you said yes to Jesus? Compare your life before and after.

  2. Have you ever seen someone else in your life become a completely different person after deciding to follow Christ? What were some of the biggest changes you noticed?

  3. Just because we say yes to Jesus, doesn’t mean we won’t still struggle saying no to the things in this world. What makes it so appealing to want to copy the behaviors and customs of this world? How do your thoughts play into this fight? Instead of doing what everyone else in the world is doing, how can God transform you by changing your thoughts? How often do you think we are going to have to allow God to transform us? Why?

  4. Read John 10:10. What are some ways you’ve seen Satan try to steal, kill or destroy life? What kind of life does Jesus promise in this verse?

  5. Read Romans 6:6-7. What part of our old self died with Christ? How does this encourage you?

6. Read Romans 6:11-14. As new creations in Christ, what can we offer to God? Instead of being controlled by sinfulness, what freedom can we live under?

DO:

 Take some time to journal about all the ways life in Christ has made you new. Think beyond just new behaviors, but think also about the attitudes of your heart. Where have you seen the biggest change?
