Session Four/Small Group Questions

INTRO: When is the last time you discovered something, a new band, a new product, a new food, a new book or something else, and you just HAD to share it with someone else? What is something someone else loves because you introduced them to it?

SCRIPTURE: 18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 19 For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. 20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” 21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,so that we could be made right with God through Christ. – 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 (NLT)

19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. 21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. – Colossians 1:10-22 (NLT)

IDEA:

  •   God brought us back to Himself through Christ.

  •   We’ve been given the task to RECONCILE others to Him

  •   God uses your life to draw others to eternal life.

  •   Our purpose is to REPRESENT Him.

    ASK:

  1. Have you ever been lost as a kid? Do you remember a time when you got separated from your parents or caregivers? What did you feel like once you were reunited?

  2. Reconcile means to “make oneself or another no longer opposed” to something else. What do you think about the fact that God gave YOU the task to reconcile people to Him? What are some ways you could help make people no longer opposed to God?

  1. An ambassador is someone who is authorized to represent or speak on behalf of someone else. How does it make you feel to know God wants to use YOU to make His appeal to others? How should that impact your everyday choices?

  2. Who do you know that is an awesome ambassador of Christ? How could you encourage that person?

  3. When you talk to your friends who are against God or Jesus, what are their biggest reasons? Have they ever seen someone who is supposed to represent Jesus act nothing like Him? Have you ever seen someone who is supposed to be representing Christ act nothing like Him? How could that impact someone who is far away from God?

  4. We will never be a perfect representation of Jesus. When we mess up or don’t show Jesus the way He truly is, what are some ways we can fix it?

  5. Why is it such a big deal to represent Christ in a real way? What is at stake?

  6. Because of what Jesus did on the cross on our behalf, we are completely reconciled to God if we have chosen to accept the free gift being offered. It means God sees us differently. He sees us like He sees Christ: holy and blameless. How does that help you to let go your past mistakes? How can that help you as you move forward in your life?

DO:

 Make a list of 3 people who are opposed to the things of God and Jesus. Get together in smaller groups and pray for the people on your list. What are some ways you can tell them about and show them Christ in the coming days?
